The Craft of Gunsmithing:

For the dedicated hunter or sport's shooter, acquiring a skill to Gunsmith and the ability to repair Gun Stocks is essential. Dependable Gun Shops are not always readily available and must not impact on your hunting trip schedule. A  Gunsmith tool box with an assortment of tools including glue/epoxy (Gun Stocks repair) and a Gunsmith work station are items necessary to perform possible  repairs.

The Gunsmith as a profession requires personnel who can repair, modify, design, and/or build firearms to factory/customer specifications. The primary responsibility of a Gunsmith professional is to insure the weapon they work on functions properly and safely. Gunsmith professionals can be employed in factories, sporting-goods stores, or small Gun Shops. Due to the great number of skills required to master the entire Gunsmith craft (pistols, shotguns, rifles, antiques, Gun Stocks), many-a Gunsmith will specialize in one area with proficiency increasing as experience grows.

Further Gun Smith specializations may include Custom Builder/Designer who can build guns (including Gun Stocks) to the clients specifications. This requires great skill and education since components must be crafted/tested before assembly. A Custom Builder/Designer would not normally be found in local Gun Shops, but could be asked for a reference.

The Gunsmith Finisher uses various chemicals (bluing etc.) applied to the metal parts to develop corrosion resistant  surfaces.

A stock maker first carves Gun Stocks to specifications from wood and then adds a protective finish. Once completed, Gun Stocks are matched with the appropriate metal parts and then inspected for final disposition.

The Gunsmith profession also includes niche manufacturing, where supply/demand drives the types of gun parts and Gun Stocks made. These items are sold to Gun Shops and other retail outlets as replacement parts.

Hunters and other shooters have repaired and maintained their weapons since tools have been available. When needed, Gun Shops never seem to be available. Therefore, all hunters/shooters should have the basic  Gun Stocks/Gunsmith repairing tools, skills, and knowledge to satisfy an emergency.

Consider this your Online choice of "Gun Shops" to browse/secure repair products for "Gun Stocks" and "Gunsmith" tools!
