This requires great skill and education since components must be crafted/tested before assembly. A Custom Builder/Designer would not normally be found in local Gun Shops, but could be asked for a reference. The Gunsmith Finisher uses various chemicals (bluing etc.) applied to the metal parts to develop corrosion resistant surfaces. A stock maker first carves Gun Stocks to specifications from wood and then adds a protective finish. Once completed, Gun Stocks are matched with the appropriate metal parts and then inspected for final disposition. The Gunsmith profession also includes niche manufacturing, where supply/demand drives the types of gun parts and Gun Stocks made. These items are sold to Gun Shops and other retail outlets as replacement parts. Hunters and other shooters have repaired and maintained their weapons since tools have been available.
